What is a back to wall toilet?

Back to wall toilets feature a concealed cistern, which does not distract the eye. The cistern is typically housed within the wall, but it can also be hidden within coordinating bathroom furniture. The flush is mounted to the wall, above the visible pan. There are plenty of options on the market, including dual flush buttons and mounted push plates.

This type of WC is compact in comparison to standard toilets which help maximise the available space. Unlike wall hung toilets the pan extends all the way to the floor.

The Cilantro range is a fantastic ‘all-rounder’ with a soft, curved design. It looks great in modern or traditional bathrooms and is also an excellent choice for bathrooms or ensuites. The back to wall WC looks great when combined with a vanity unit.

Sandro Back to Wall WC

The Sandro has a pronounced curve, which creates an elegant side profile. Like most back to wall toilets, it can be fitted within a wall or bathroom furniture, which gives you the opportunity to add a bit of colour to the space.

We love pairing the Sandro with an eye-catching vanity unit.

What are the Advantages of Back to Wall Toilets?

  • Space saving – back to wall toilets are a great option for small bathrooms, cloakrooms or ensuites. Hiding the cistern from view helps minimise clutter and gives the impression of increased space
  • Minimalist design – back to wall toilets are an excellent choice for anyone looking to create a ‘fuss free’ look and feel. With the cistern and pipework hidden behind a wall or bathroom furniture, your bathroom will look neat and tidy from the outset
  • Easy to clean – with a back to wall toilet you will only need to clean the pan and seat. This reduces the amount of surfaces to clean

What are the disadvantages of back to wall toilets?

  • Harder to install – back to wall toilets are more difficult to install than traditional close coupled toilets. It is not recommended to install them yourself, so you will also need to factor in the cost of hiring a plumber.
  • Difficult to access – one of the drawbacks of choosing a back to wall toilet is that they are difficult to access to carry out maintenance or repairs. In the event of an issue you will need to remove the wall or unit concealing the cistern and pipework.
